The Story of My Great-Great-Grandfather
While I enjoy reading stories in many forms, there’s nothing quite like a biography.

Munger described reading biographies as gathering wisdom from the “eminent dead”. Not only is it entertaining but also enlightening. You get to glean first-hand experience without having to go through the tribulations.

Getting To Know My Inner Voice
We all have an inner voice. Our personal narrator laying out our story for us, moment by moment. Our one-of-one internal radio announcer, reciting the day’s events.

I call mine Mr. Story Teller.

It’s a strange thought – that I’m walking around all day with this voice in my head.

My Journey with CBT – Part 1
There was a period in my life when I felt really low. My thoughts turned negative more than positive, which wasn’t my norm. I had trouble falling asleep and would stare at the ceiling for hours at night, my mind wondering. I felt tired. I was in my mid-30s.

It was the first time in my life that I developed a pattern of emotional lull that I couldn’t work myself out of.

An Ode to the Legal Profession
I didn’t grow up wanting to be a lawyer.

Most of what I heard about lawyers when I was younger was from lawyer jokes.

My Dad’s Singular Advice
My dad and I didn’t have the type of relationship where he would give me a lot of advice. It just wasn’t like that.

If I asked him about something, he’d opine. But generally he kept his thoughts to himself and let me learn things on my own.

Lock the Contract Away (says Mr. Cut-The-Shit)
I spent several years working on a M&A deal team in Europe during my 30s.

It was a cutthroat, high-speed environment. Most days, I was either pitching deals or working with investment bankers, fund managers, private investors, lawyers and tax advisers. Lots of variables and cross-border complexity. I loved it.

Unleashing New Superpowers After Law School
After I took the bar exam, I needed to sort out how I wanted to start my professional life. Instead of going the traditional route and working for a law firm, I decided to go into business. I took a few months off to find the right opportunity. I traveled a lot between DC (law school) and NYC (opportunity).

In hindsight, this was a much needed break and a great time for me to take a pause.

My Bar Exam Story
I studied hard for the bar exam. It was a real grind, throughout the entire summer of 2007. But something in me really liked it.

In fact, I liked studying for the bar exam better than I liked studying in law school. Studying in law school was like a slow drip. Three months of lectures on one subject followed by one final exam – with the professor trying to trick you on the exam.
